Time To Eat

Nicely's Restaurant in Lee Vining, California. Shari and I had a late dinner before heading out to Mono Lake for some night shooting.

Falling Lake

Lake Sabrina was pretty low when Shari Seibold and I visited in late October. Autumn was in the air and the trees. Water was still flowing into the Bishop Creek system.

Not All Had Been Caught

This is a view of Bishop Creek about a 1/4 mile East of Lake Sabrina where Hwy 168 crosses the creek. Despite the number of fisherman that probably wet a line here, there were a few crafty fish swimming around taunting Shari Seibold and I. You could hear them, "hey, what are you going to catch with that tripod?"

Hwy 168 Still In Color

The Eastern Sierras in the Bishop, California area are still providing some color. This shot was on Friday, October 19th a few miles West of Bishop. The Aspens are hanging onto their leaves just a bit longer, but, their grasp is weakening.

Columnar Basalt

Devils Postpile National Monument was once part of Yosemite National Park. The discovery of gold in 1905 near Mammoth Lakes prompted a boundary change that left the Postpile on adjacent public land.

A proposal to build a hydroelectric dam called for blasting the Postpile into the river. Influential Californians persuaded the federal government to stop the demolition and in 1911, President William Howard Taft protected the area as a National Monument.

Shari Seibold and I visited the Postpile for the first time in late October. I noticed this evening that the National Monument is closed for the season. We evidently couldn't have had better timing to get a Fall visit in.

A Slice Of Fall

Silver Lake is part of the June Lake Loop on Hwy 158 in the Eastern Sierras located in Mono County, California. The Fall colors were still in evidence when Shari Seibold and I visited in late October.

We spent at least an hour just a short walk from the parking area. The groves of Aspens were thick and colorful.

Up Periscope

I know this shot doesn't look like it was very dark at Convict Lake, but, that's part of the magic of HDR. The really odd thing is I really didn't notice that this well camoflauged submarine was moving across the lake because of the darkness. Look a little left of center bottom and you can see the periscope.

Tufa Sunset

The Tufas are preparing to come out and play. They are quite nocturnal and love basking in moonlight and starlight. You can hear the giggles as they come alive. Okay, probably not giggling; that was +Shari Seibold. A nervous giggle like, "are there mountain lions out here?" kinda giggle. Mono Lake located near Lee Vining in Mono County, California.

Last Bit Of Light

Shari Seibold and I explored Mono Lake near sunset. Majestic tufas abounded.
